Craft vendors will temporarily relocate to Antonio Soria Park for a year before returning to the renovated facilities.
The measure was taken at the popular hippie craft market on Paseo de la Libertad due to the renovation work around the Torrevieja port.
The city council has informed vendors that the fair must be cleared of stalls by March 1st, as fencing work begins. The preliminary location for their relocation will be the market area of Antonio Soria Park. The return of the fair and the reconstructed promenade and pedestrian area is planned for Easter 2026.
Stall owners must notify their intention to relocate to a temporary location by February 3rd. Of the approximately 190 stalls arranged in a row along the central promenade, about 160 are operating regularly. However, not all of them plan to move to the market complex's esplanade, where, more than two and a half kilometers from the city center, the influx of potential buyers is practically nonexistent.
The dismantling of the stalls will be carried out by the city council, and if during the construction any of their elements are damaged and rendered unusable, the municipality will provide another temporary one.
The Hippies will share the space with the weekly Friday market, and during the summer of 2025 with the Brilla Torrevieja festival and other large concerts.
The vendors must hire private security and cleaning services for the portable toilets already installed.
Any merchant who decides not to operate in the new location will have until March 1st to prepare their stand. Remove it yourself or leave it empty: the city council will demolish it during the construction.
Approximately half of the current 160 stalls have already announced their intention to temporarily relocate.
The idea is that when the stalls return to the remodeled pedestrian zone, their location will be different from the current one to avoid the current accessibility and safety issues that create a barrier effect at pedestrian crossings.
The sketches presented by the city council for the final appearance of this area show several separate islands of stalls distributed on both sides of the renovated Customs building and in the Hombre del Mar area.
