As the final days of Lent approach, Holy Week begins throughout Spain, and of course, also in Torrevieja. These processions, eagerly awaited by Torrevieja residents and visitors, feature fifteen brotherhoods, 19 floats, and thousands of members, including capirotes (bearers of the cap) and costaleros (costaleros bearers).
Holy Week in Torrevieja, whose most visible manifestation is the processions that bring piety to the streets of Torrevieja from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday.
Of course, this festival, so important for all Christians, attracts many tourists to Torrevieja, as popular customs such as the distribution of sweets and candies to spectators are combined with the presence of works of special artistic perfection.
From the colorful procession on Palm Sunday to the moving silence of Thursday and the moving and heartfelt procession of the Encuentro on Easter Sunday, the local narrative of the Passion of Christ is full of moments of devotion and culture.

"THE MEETING"
The image of the Patron Saint of Torrevieja will be stripped of her mourning mantilla as she meets Jesus in the Eucharist, in the presence of Saint John.
The Royal March will be played, flower petals and alleluias will rain down, bells will ring, and gunpowder will explode in the sky because CHRIST HAS RISEN. After the meeting, both processions will unite into one.
